Description

This cool little guy in Pegasus is a lenticular edge-on galaxy. It's just about 5 arc-minutes big, one of the smallest targets I've ever imaged (last one being NGC 2276 at 3 arcminutes). I had (still have) an issue with the stars. Focus dropping over night is a big issue that I'll get to soon, but for the longest while I thought I had tilt in my sensor or my focuser. Everything was squared up to the optical train, so what was it? My Off-Axis Guider prism. I hadn't paid attention to the fact that the OAG acts like another diffraction spike for my stars, creating ugly shapes in my stars the closer you got to the OAG. I'm going to find the correct orientation next time, but that was a very big issue. Next is collimation, which was okay but not entierely perfect. I'm going to do away with a laser and do it by eye next time, so we'll see how that goes.
